Cloud-based technologies have helped a number of companies experience tremendous growth — but using those technologies isn’t always the easiest of tasks. That’s where a company like Palm-Coast-based Coastal Cloud comes in.
Since its founding in 2013, cloud technology consulting company Coastal Cloud has helped Northeast Florida companies implement technologies like customer relationship management software Salesforce and other software-as-a-service programs, evolving its offerings as the industry has grown.
Over that time, it has experienced its own tremendous growth.
Headquartered in Flagler County, Coastal Cloud employs a virtual team of consultants across the country. While focusing on local companies looking to implement popular cloud-based software, Coastal Cloud’s rate of growth actually surpasses that of Salesforce, an $8.39 billion company.
“Many people know of Salesforce as a customer relationship management solution, but it has evolved into a flexible, robust platform to build many different kinds of systems including customer service, self-service portals, ERP [enterprise resource planning] and finance and accounting,” said Coastal Cloud CEO Tim Hale. “Most of our growth is helping clients use Salesforce.com across all parts of their business, not just the sales team.”
“Many companies prefer to ‘buy local,’” Hale said, “and our strong geographic presence in Northeast Florida is a great advantage.”
How Have You Kept Your Corporate Culture Where You Want It Despite Growing So Quickly?
This is our greatest challenge and we work on it daily. Our team is headquartered in Flagler County, but we have a virtual team with consultants across the country. We keep our ‘Coastal family’ culture going through collaboration tools (chat groups, daily video calls), mentoring groups and frequent ‘all hands’ meetings to keep everyone aware of our progress and key events. We are very transparent and very collaborative. We are light on structure and high on fun! So far so good, as we enjoy one of the highest retention rates in our industry.
What’s The One Bit Of Advice You’d Have For A Company Starting Out That Wants To Grow Quickly?
Keep focused on your clients and your team. In a people-intensive business it is critical to keep very tuned into your clients and keeping them very, very happy. We are fortunate that 70 percent of our new business comes from existing clients. If you keep your current clients happy, it builds a recurring revenue foundation to build upon and it allows you to better forecast and grow.
What’s The Most Surprising Thing About Your Company?
That we are literally based on the beach in Flagler County. Almost all of our competitors are based in big, congested cities like New York, Chicago or San Francisco. People are surprised that we have built a world-class IT consulting business from the beautiful beaches of Northeast Florida. The bottom line is that quality of life matters to people and focusing on enabling that creates the foundation for building an awesome team.
